Once upon a time, in a distant kingdom faraway, something amazing had occurred. Two families of polar opposites each bore a baby girl at the exact same moment.
Oh, but the birth of these two girls at the same time isn't quite the amazing part, no.
The thing is, these girls were identical, despite never knowing that the other exists.
Until...
"My dear, won't you please cooperate?" said Queen Myriam to her now 20-year-old daughter. "If you would just spare a few hours so that we could settle your wedding busines--"
"Mother," replies the daughter, closing her book and putting it to the side. The once ever-so-small child had grown up into a lovely lady, fit for her title as 'Princess'. She stood up and sat beside her mother, grabbing ahold of her hand and giving it a gentle squeeze. "You know that I won't follow through with your plans to wed me off, so why don't you give up now? I love you, but you're just wasting you're breath by doing this."
Myriam stared at the determined blue eyes of her daughter's and sighed. "My daughter," she said. Her hand moved from her lap to her daughter's cheek, sweeping the stray strands of blond hair away from her face. "My beautiful daughter, Evelyn. All grown up now, aren't you?" she added, the tone of her voice soft. "I know you're against it, but this is necessary. The fate of our kingdom depends on this. I--"
The forlorn look painted on her daughter's face caused the words to stop. "Oh darling, don't make such a face. It breaks my heart to see you sad," she said, meaning every single word. "I'll leave for now, so why don't you take a rest."
And with that, Evelyn was left alone in her room, staring at the floor. She felt exhausted, being pushed around to do things she didn't want. How she wished she was born as a normal citizen and not a princess.
Then, out of the blue, a knock was heard.
Evelyn stood up and opened the door, but no one was there.
Then there was another knock.
She opened the door once more, and again, not a soul was seen.
Confusion filled her pretty little head, and as she heard the third knock, she waited for a while to work out which direction it came from - which was quite challenging due to the enormous size of her bedroom.
"Psst, open the door!"
"...Is that you, Daniel?" she said, stepping towards the balcony doors, where the whisper came from. "What are you doing here? And why are you whispering?" said Evelyn as she twisted the lock open.
"I never noticed that your balcony was so big," he said poking his head into her bedroom. "They could host a fashion runway here," he added.
"Yes, I know that. Thanks for your observation, Sherlock."
"No problem, your majesty," replies Daniel with a small bow, earning him a chuckle from the princess. "Well look at that, you're smiling," he said.
"Why? Is it so wrong for me to smile?" she said, sitting down on a chair nearby.
"No, it's just that I thought you'd already forgotten how," he replied, sitting beside her. "You've been down in the dumps an awful lot now, you know?"
"Hm."
"Look, why don't I take you into town? It'll be fun, so go get dressed."
A single eyebrow raised, Evelyn grew skeptical at the offer. "What's the catch?"
"Oh come on, don't tell me you don't trust your own tutor?" he replied with a smirk, almost as if he was challenging her.
"I trust you as a tutor, but--"
"Will you just go change? I'm trying to treat you to something, so just follow with it," he cut her off and turned away to walk away towards the balcony door.
"Whatever you say, Daniel," she mumbled, rolling her eyes. "Whatever you say."
