My views! :: Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

As promised.

(Source: Link)

I watched the movie with my sister the past Thursday. She borrowed the DVD from her friend who urged her to watch due to my sister's (false) claims of loving horror movies (because I know she's a scaredy cat) .

So! Here's what I think of the movie.

[Skip to "Comments" for short, no-spoiler views]

The movie starts all eerie with the dark diner and the lone man sitting in a booth.
(I was too distracted by the man to be scared by the aura of the scene)

Then this woman passes by with a glass coffee pot in hand. The man wanted coffee so he called out for the woman, but she walked away without even blinking. To which he called her a bitch.

Then there was something that made the man wanted to go into the kitchen (I don't remember what because I was offended by the word bitch. Aaand because he was hot.)

Like every idiot in horror movies, he walked into the obviously-dangerous-kitchen-where-there-would-obviously-be-the-end-of-you.

Buut! Luckily for him, it wasn't the end of him - because he woke up, thanks to the really pretty waitress (although he did suffer from a badly cut hand). By this time, I have already figured out why the movie was titled what it was.

A blonde chick appeared and was apparently looking for the man asked the waitress where Dean (that's his name) was. She pointed to his booth, where Dean was busy wiping the cut (that was obviously nonexistent).

Bla, bla, bla, there were guys sitting at another booth. One of them was the waitress's guy and the other was the blonde's ex. The ex was extremely jealous of Dean even with him being his friend. (I understand why.)

By now, you should already have guessed that this post is going to be long and full of spoilers. Beware. You have been warned.

Because he couldn't take it anymore, the ex left abruptly and as douche-ly as possible, making his friends follow after him out the diner.

Then, in the silence of the night (I think it was night-time), Dean fell asleep. Which, as you may have guessed, really did mean the end of him.

The blonde was struck at the sight of Dean, handsome and with a knife (who told you to order steak!) sliced into his throat. Very gory, might I say.

Due to the incident, the blonde was very sad an traumatic because she lost Dean.

At the funeral, the blonde saw her old self playing near Dean's grave and then pulled by a hand into the deep grave. She abruptly woke up afterwards with a sharp inhale of air.

By now, you should know that the blonde should probably be the next victim.

The ex, worried about the blonde, leapt to her side to ask what's wrong. He said he deserved to know because Dean was also his friend. To which the blonde told him everything. Of course, he did not believe her.

But the waitress did.

She started to tell her that she knew what she meant, but was cut off by the ex who supposedly did not want to ruin the blonde's mind anymore than it already was.

The blonde wanted to know about the past, so she searched for evidence. There came a scene where she went alone. To the garage. In the middle of the night.

This is how idiotic people in horror movies are.

Wait! There's more.

She pulled down the staircase to the attic (that was dark), picked up a (very small) torch, and went in. ALONE.

As she was searching, the camera went for a close up to her face. And we all know what this means.

BEHIND YOU.

Oh, it was just a nightmare.

After that, a bunch (two, to be exact) of people get killed thanks to wanting to sleep.

What I don't get is why everyone is surprisingly calm despite the fact that already three people from their neighborhood are slaughtered. What?

Then the two remaining main characters (three if you count the killer) go on a search to why Freddy (the killer) wants to kill them.

The guy (waitress's guy) had a dream while swimming (don't swim if you haven't sleep for so long!) about Freddy and how he was killed.

He thought that the man had an unjust ending of his life, and managed to convince the waitress and me. I was close to tears at dying for something you didn't do.

Bla, bla, bla, thriller here, drama there, familial difficulties, bleeding arm.

We get to the scene where they reach their old kindergarten, where they were all friends with. Guess who's the gardener that liked to play with them?

Yep, Freddy.

Searching, searching, searching, the found out why Freddy was after them. Oh, and this was my favourite quote.

"He isn't after us because we lied; he's after us because we told the truth."

More less what he said.

The waitress was mad, I was too (because I really believed Freddy was wronged! But he was the one who wrongs! is that a word?)

So they decide they want to catch him.

After much struggle, playing in Freddy' world - which made me excited - the two succeeded in bringing Freddy into the real world. Also, here's another favourite quote:

"Hurts now, huh? This is my world, bitch."

More less what she said.

I'm so sorry for cussing. But that was what they said. I will not alter.

Then they slaughtered up the slaughterer. Got rescued by ambulance. Went home.

But as expected,

It isn't over yet.

Comments:

The effects and make-up were really awesome, I'll admit.
The actors they choose looked nice, too.
But if I were to summarize all that I feel about this movie into one sentence, it would be:

"The plot twist is: There is no plot twist!" said Loop.

I figured out most of what'll happen, and it was kind of expected. But it's a great movie to pass the time. 7/10.

[End]
